I'm going to post this here. There was a website that contained this infromation that included screenshots but it is no longer available. (forums.the-myos.net)

I hope I have everything correct. If not, feel free to suggest changes. Smile

Adding the SuSE FTP server as a Source of Installation in YAST:

Go to:

Control Center/YaST2 Modules/Software/Change Source of Installation/Administrator Mode Button and enter your Administrator Password.

Click Add and select FTP, and in the Server Name box type 195.135.221.132

In the directory type /pub/suse/i386/9.1 (substitute 9.2 if you are running the newer version)

Check the box next to Anonymous in the authentication box, and click ok.

Now you must highlight the new FTP source, click on the "up" button until it rises to the top so that it becomes your new default source.

You should now be able to go to "Install and Remove Software" and use the SuSE FTP resources. Allow a couple of minutes for YaST2 to read the contents of the SuSE FTP site.

Hope this helps.

EDIT:
SuSE International FTP Mirrors
. If you choose to use one of the mirrors instead of the main SuSE FTP site, see the quote below.

You must use the dig command in a terminal to find the IP address of whatever FTP server your using.

Moderated:
This turorial was written for SuSE 9.1. The 9.2 FTP directories are now populated so this tutorial can now also apply to SuSE 9.2 (just substitute 9.2 for 9.1 where needed)

Glad you did that, Xeroid. I tried to link someone to that site and, like you said, it was unavailable.

trying it now, but it seems to have locked up.

It kept telling me that the address was wrong.
So I removed the leading / in pub/suse/i386/9.1 because it seemed to add a trailing / to the IP.

So, did you get it to work Doc? I tried removing the / from the front of pub/suse/i386/9.1 and could never connect to the server on my box. If I use /pub/suse/i386/9.1 it connects just fine.

You should stick that on the tutorial/howto thread, just so we can find it in future.
(I would, but I'm not allowed to edit the post Very Happy)

Thanks for the guide. I am installing SUSE 9.1 as we speak and I would love to install via the SUSE FTP site.

This still works with 9.3.
The server was kinda slow downloading Pysol (32mb) but it's Friday night.
Some things still need to be installed from CDs, thought. xmms for instance.
