@Richard:

I just installed Ubuntu. Man, on the one hand i love it, on the other hand i just can't get productive with this thingy.

It is nice but it has a few quirks. Don't for get that this is a pre-release version though.

For example i just can't figure out howto mount my FAT 32 partitions probably (i have two with data on it). Did you experience similar problems, richard?? Did you get it to work??

Description: I added two mountpoints in /mnt. When i call mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/data for example, then automagically a window pops up and shows the root of these partitions.... This is what i love about it!!!

I didn't have this problem because I don't dual boot. But it did find my XP box on my network without a problem and allow me to view the shared directories without a hitch. Though it did come up with a screen asking for a username and password but if if cleared it I could access the shares as normal.

I really have to register for the mailinglist and try to give some feedback. When they get this distri up and running probably then it will be soo cool

Good idea but it does get a little busy.

With regards to Rhythmbox I haven't had that problem but I haven't really played with it.

Hehe,

just took a look at the mailinglist. The first post describes my problem. Have to read 3 MB (!!!) of text now. Will report back.

P.S.: I am pretty new to mailingslists. Is there a nice and easy way to view the posts instead of browsing to the mailinglist site and read through all the text?

//edit:

Looks like i have to set some extra options like umask,... Will try this when i am at home and report back.

GNOME 2.8 so far makes me very happy. The only gripe that I have is that I cannot find anything like KDE's menu editor so that I can sort the application list to my liking.

This is the only thing I don't like about GNOME, as well, and there are a lot more people out there with that complaint, but I think it was a design choice to make things "simple" for the user.

Nothing like replying to my own posts. Very Happy

In GNOME 2.8, you can add stuff to the menu by right-clicking in the menu section, selecting Entire Menu->Add Launcher to This Panel
