I have read many other posts of SuSe 9.0 users who are having the same problem. There is supposed to be a patch or something for it but I can't find it or any info on it either. |

Xeroid, that's exactly what I have tried. After YaST installs it all I get is the new k3b splash screen then it ends before the program opens and nothing else happens. |

I wasn't too sure.
But now I think K3B killed my CD-Burner.
I was trying to write pictures to an CD that already had stuff.
And then decided that I didn't want to use that CD. so I cancelled it just after the test writing.
Then the BIOS started not recognizing my drives. HDD or CD or Floppy.
I took out the CD and CD-Burner, and put in a lite-on burner, everything works. Haven't tried k3b again though. |

I wonder what means you used to cancel the test writing - powering the whole system off will do that (and a whole lot more, too). Somehow, this doesn't seem possible. |

I gave it another try last night (upgrading I mean) but all I get is still the new Kb3 splash screen the it just ends. Nothing else happens. I'm lost now. |

I would suggest you upgrade to the latest k3b 0.11 which runs on KDE 3.1.4 and up.
You will also need, at a minimum, the latest versions of cdrecord, mkisofs, cdrdao, MAD (for mp3s), dvd+rw-tools (for dvd burning), and lame (for ripping mp3s).
I never had much luck with k3b until I used this newest version with KDE 3.2 and it's great. With the latest cdrdao, you don't even need scsi emulation for your burner. It handles atapi interface and it's fast. Of course, running the 2.6.3 kernel could account for some of the speed.
My burner is a LG GMA-4020B DVD -r/-rw drive.
cdrecord-2.01-0.a25
cdrdao-1.1.8-0.pre2.0.20040106.2
mkisofs-2.01-0.a25
dvd+rw-tools-5.17.4.8.6-1
I use grip w/ blade encoder for mp3s |

i tried k3b because i didnt feel like booting windoze for nero (i read this post and it scared me about k3b) and it burnt my isos so much faster than nero did even when i adjusted the speed down so that i wouldnt make a coaster |

I had the same problem with K3b on SuSE 9.0. I tried downloading the rpm from the SuSE support site, but this rpm didn't work as others have mentioned here. K3b starts and abruptly aborts.
Thanks to Germ for suggesting the k3b.org site. Their rpm for SuSE 9.0 did install and seems to work. At least K3b is up and running. I have not tried burning a CD yet. If I have a problem with that, I will post it here. Thanks again to "Germ"! |
