I would like to know if there is a way to use kaffien or some other media player with mozilla as a plugin. The only thing I can't seem to get to work is media player plugins for files with .wmv extensions.

install mplayer and mplayer-plugin. Link the plugin to your moz plugin directory. Wink Be aware there will be lots of deps. You probably already have some installed if you're using kaffein.

And for all the different file formats, don't forget about needing codecs.... maybe something you already have will include the codecs for wmv?

I think mplayer provides these in a wine-style thing (in so much as using the win32 dll's for certain formats)
I beleive the package is called win32dlls (funnily enough) and should be availiable on the mplayer homepage.

I use Mozplugger with Mozilla on my Debian system and I'm able to access most multimedia formats without any problems. I just use Debian's 1.6-5 update of Mozilla 1.6 and I add the Debian implementation of Mozplugger to it and Debian takes care of the rest for me.

to add a question to this thread i was curious if anyone could try this link for me to see if they can play it. you can pick from any of the links from the stanley cup finals. im using mozplugger at the moment.

http://nhl.com/intheslot/watch/video/

i can get mplayer to play certain .wmv files(had to uncomment all the asf lines in /etc/mpluggerrc) but for the life of me cant get this page to work right. i just get "mms is not a registered protocol"

TIA
