Well, I'm thinking of taking the total linux plunge, meaning totally ditching Windows XP. My only concern is the few games that I own/play. So far I've managed to get UT GOTY to run on my Fedora 1 box, but thats about it. My 2 main questions are 1) What is the best distro for some occasional gaming, and everyday general use (chat, IRC, email, browsing, mp3 playback and CD burning), and 2) How would I go about making the games I list below run in Linux. I know there are probably patches out there for most of them, but being the linux "n00b" that I am, I'm not sure where to look for them other than the endless google searching.

The main games that I'm concerned about are:
UT 2024
Unreal 2, The Awakening

Then a few that I rarely play are:
Max Payne
Black&White
Soldier of Fortune
Undying (not really tickled about this one tho)

Sorry I never saw this before, the reply is a bit late but hopefully it still helps Embarassed

Gentoo is normally regarded as the best distro for gaming because its fast, doesn't install unwanted servers etc. and provides a special gaming-sources kernel for - you've guessed it - gaming.

Unreal 2: I don't know about a Linux port for this. Kinda stuck for info.
UT2003: There's a port and by the sounds of it you've got it installed and working. Gentoo also provides a LiveCD for it:

I haven't used it though.
The other games, You might be able to get some working under WineX if you have an NVidia card and are willing to pay the subscription. I think I've seen things about Max Payne and B+W. As I say though, I'm not sure. Sad
Sorry I was late in responding and in all probability not very helpful. Sad

Thats ok Nukes, better late than never. Smile

I googled some info on Unreal 2 and found that it wont even run under wineX, and UT 2024... well, check out the sticky.. Smile Anyway, I'll have to look into the other games.
