I just installed Libranet 2.8.1, and everything seems to work except the CD music. I can hear the test sound, but when I put in the CD and try to run Xmms, I get a box that wants me to have directories and files -- where from, I don't know. Anyways, I have never had trouble installing and using my CDplayer as soon as the installation was finished, so I have no experience with audio configuration. I did what I could in adminmenu, but that ain't much folks. Can anyone help me out? THX, JP Very Happy Very Happy

My advice is to use something other than xmms for CDs. It's a nightmare to get it to play anything but mp3s and oggs.

but if you want to try, here's mmmna's tutorial:

mmmna's tutorial is really great and I was able to get it to play cds, but not in .wav format Sad I have to use grip. It's pretty cool. It puts the music on your HD in .ogg format. Takes up about 50mb for a cd. JP, try grip and see if you like it Very Happy

OK, How about Xine? Sasha, I don't find grip in the options, which wm does it use? I had xine working last nite for a few minutes, but this morning I can't even get the player. Right now I'm using kscd with the IceWM window manager. Boy, they sure have a lot of selections with this distro, I can be in Ice, and use apps from KDE and Gnome w/o having to change windowmanagers, etc. this is really cool, so far. Have you ever tried it? If so I'd like your opinion about likes/dislikes, advantages/disadvantages, weaknesses/strengths, etc. from your perspective. I know you already have your fave distro, but what do you think of this one (Libranet), is what I mean.(that is, of course, if you can find the time; it's getting harder and harder to get here to the LUG more than once or twice a day lately).
