I put a few tweaks together (I'm only the compiler) a while back, and introduced it to my friends on AIM. They liked it, and I thought I'd share publicly.

Here's how to get it to work.

1. Go here [geocities.com].

2. Download the "user.js" file and place it in your Mozilla xxxxxxxx.slt or Firefox default.xxx directory.

The default, for those using Firefox, should be ~/.mozilla/firefox/default.xxx/. For those using Mozilla, the xxxxxxxx.slt directory should be in ~/.mozilla/other_directories. "~", as you all know, is your home directory (e.g. /home/lk).

3. Download the "userContent.css" and "userChrome.css" files and to the chrome directory in your default.xxx or xxxxxxxx.slt directory.

4. Close and relaunch Mozilla or Firefox and enjoy.

If you did it right, you'll notice a big change in performance. If you want to know what's in the tweaks, take a look... I've included - to name a few - the pipelining tweak, page rendering speed-up, and banner-ad blocking. I'll update these from time to time, in case anyone needs a newer copy of them.

Enjoy.

I've updated the files user.js, userChrome.css, and userContent.css. Don't bother with the "plug-ins," though. They're DLLs for Windows.

I think I'll include a readme file sometime in the near future.

I hope you guys like the update; feedback would be much appreciated Smile

I'll just add that your files work great with Netscape, as well. That's not really surprising since NS is based on Mozilla/Gecko.

Thanks again!

Do these tweaks work on the Windows version of Firefox? I have a mchine that needs to have M$ on it for a Windows specific database client and I use Firefox.

They go in your user profile directory. The path is a little different, but the final destination is the same place as in Linux.

Oh, ok. I got what you are saying. I thought they would go into the Firefox folder in the Program Files. Thanks for your help.
