SuSE 9.2 pro has no startup or system sounds Others OK

My apologies if this not the proper forum
After installing SuSEs distro most things seem to work alright, but have noticed that I had no startup sound with KDE 3.3 like I did with 3.2 and MDK plus no system sounds at all either. Playing Cds, wavs, etc is ok just that the others are missing. Also it seemed like MDK used alsa sound, but here it has oss as the sound. I thouhgt KDE always used the alsa sound system. I've used control center and YaST to make sure sound is enabled and Kmix has no muted volumes. Other than that I'm not sure where to look. Up front THANKS

Open KDE Control Center and go to Sound and Multimedia> System Notifications.
Choose System Notifications from the Event Source drop-down list. A list of system events will appear and any events with a sound enabled should have a .wav icon next to it. Highlight a system event to choose( use the browse button) and test a sound.

Hi lynch, This will all be for nothing I guess as I have trashed the SuSE and went back to MDK 10.1. Although I did what you ask before I gave up and it changed nothing. All had wav icons and sounds were turned on but nothing but quiet. Thanks for chiming in tho' and I know I'll need some help with MDK too. I'm way too new to help myself just yet. Again Thanks

SuSE 9.2 has no startup sound that I am aware of.

The only time other that kennel upgrades that I boot or reboot is after power outages, so it no big deal to me.

No problem,taz. The KDE startup sounds are configured the same way; through KDE Control Center so it does'nt matter what distro.
