wine and x11 drvr plus other errors

I am trying to install a simple app in wine and it keeps giving me these errors. Could someone explain them to me please? These are the three errors:
*********************************************
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

wine: Could not load graphics driver 'x11drv'.
Make sure that your X server is running and that $DISPLAY is set correctly.

Something which is running as a different user is trying to get onto the screen. Also looks like a few edits in a config file should fix the problem, but which config file and what to change?

What was the program that you were trying to run, and what user was trying to run that program (if you log in as a user but the program is being run as root, the program can't use 'users' screen, security problem there).

The program I was trying to install is irfanview or( iview395.exe) and the errors have changed now as I just tried again to install it. The errors I get now are below:

I believe I did try to install it as root last time and this time I did not.

Well, I've never used wine but it looks like you need mfc42.dll in your Windows libraries to run IrfanView under wine.
