Can Qt3 and Qt4 live together?

I'm planning to port one project written for Qt3 to newer Qt4, therefore I need both libraries to coexist in my system. Does anyone now if I can safely install Qt4 from gentoo portage w/o breaking my system:?: I currently have Qt3 installed but no KDE.
