Let's say you wanted to show someone a complicated gimp procedure, but you can't show them in person, as you live on different continents. | There is the normal bbips which uses a menu system....... then i also created the command line utilities shown in the video above. The command line programs I wrote last and are pretty handy for quick manipulation of all the images in a directory... from a shell session.

It loads fine for me. Maybe you tried during a scheduled server back-up session?

I assume it creates large files because its not doing expensive compression on the fly (and people might want the full quality video too).
I'm sure re-encoding the video would allow you to create reasonably distributable videos.

It's specifically geared towards creating tutorial-like vidoes. Instead of just recording your desktop, it records desktop events - allowing you to to stop the video at mouse clicks and add on-screen dialogs and stuff. It's quite easy to use (well to be honest, I've only used it in windows, but they do have a linux version).

You end up with flash-videos that are quite small (smaller than a large 29fps video would be).

Gave wink a quick try - clue for the Linux version ...Num Lock must be off. Didn't get timed mode to work, but still, got four 1024 x 768 screenshots, added notes, and came up with 220 Kb file size. Nice find.
