I was tired of going to sites and seeing my web address displayed. So I did some google and surfed until I decided apon the combination of privoxy and tor( the oinion router) .
Not only are you anonymous on the internet but it stops alot of annoying ads.
My installing Privoxy & tor in Sidux was as simple as synaptic and mark both packages for install. Then there are easy to follow instruction for setup and tuning at the tor website.

From tor's webpage:
Quote:

Tor: anonymity online

Tor is a toolset for a wide range of organizations and people that want to improve their safety and security on the Internet. Using Tor can help you anonymize web browsing and publishing, instant messaging, IRC, SSH, and other applications that use the TCP protocol. Tor also provides a platform on which software developers can build new applications with built-in anonymity, safety, and privacy features.

Tor aims to defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal anonymity and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security. Communications are bounced around a distributed network of servers called onion routers, protecting you from websites that build profiles of your interests, local eavesdroppers that read your data or learn what sites you visit, and even the onion routers themselves.

Tor's security is improved as its user base grows and as more people volunteer to run servers. Please consider volunteering your time or volunteering your bandwidth. And remember that this is development codeā€”it's not a good idea to rely on the current Tor network if you really need strong anonymity.

Remember your DNS requests aren't torified, so you'd still be leaking info that way.

Hey Nuke's thanks for your reply.
I think that is the reason for privoxy, it uses socks 4A rather than socks 4 or 5.
Quote:

Your application uses the SOCKS protocol to connect to your local Tor client. There are 3 versions of SOCKS you are likely to run into: SOCKS 4 (which only uses IP addresses), SOCKS 5 (which usually uses IP addresses in practice), and SOCKS 4a (which uses hostnames).

When your application uses SOCKS 4 or SOCKS 5 to give Tor an IP address, Tor guesses that it 'probably' got the IP address non-anonymously from a DNS server. That's why it gives you a warning message: you probably aren't as anonymous as you think.
Solution: use a socks4a-capable HTTP proxy, such as Privoxy.

But thanks you got me learning more Smile about it.
