As a "trial-and-error" linux learner, I seem to find myself Surprised BEYOND BASH at times.

Stumbled upon this link for some keystrokes to use before a hard power-off landing: ("Like Ctrl + Alt + Delete this tip is a three fingered Vulcan neck pinch")

http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/blogs/closing_down_gnu_linux_safely_with_sysrq+

of course, if you don't memorize these aids Laughing

may none of you ever need to use these

I should add another crashing tip I gleaned from masinick's GRUB links:

I did add a "Halt! Stop! Quit- already" line to my GRUB menu (as was suggested somewhere). Sometimes my machine does not do a smooth power off and reboots itself. The halt command in GRUB keeps me from recycling!!

Here's another article on this at FOSSwire.

good link Xeroid. I think yours is a little better way to remember to do things in a pattern.

The "turn off" stuff for most distros is buried too far into the small print. These tips keep us from doing any more harm
