Assault Cube:

http://assault.cubers.net/download.html
Quote:

AssaultCube, formerly ActionCube, is a free first-person-shooter based on the game Cube. Set in a realistic looking environment, as far as that´s possible with this engine, while gameplay stays fast and arcade. This game is all about team oriented multiplayer fun.

Saurbraten

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.html?group_id=102911
Quote:

Sauerbraten (a.k.a. Cube 2) is a free multiplayer/singleplayer first person shooter, built as a major redesign of the Cube FPS.

Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features & eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine.

Tremulous
http://tremulous.net/
http://tremulous.net/files/
Quote:

Tremulous is a free, open source game that blends a team based FPS with elements of an RTS. Players can choose from 2 unique races, aliens and humans. Players on both teams are able to build working structures in-game like an RTS. These structures provide many functions, the most important being spawning. The designated builders must ensure there are spawn structures or other players will not be able to rejoin the game after death. Other structures provide automated base defense (to some degree), healing functions and much more...

Player advancement is different depending on which team you are on. As a human, players are rewarded with credits for each alien kill. These credits may be used to purchase new weapons and upgrades from the "Armoury". The alien team advances quite differently. Upon killing a human foe, the alien is able to evolve into a new class. The more kills gained the more powerful the classes available.

The overall objective behind Tremulous is to eliminate the opposing team. This is achieved by not only killing the opposing players but also removing their ability to respawn by destroying their spawn structures.

OpenArena
http://openarena.ws/
http://openarena.ws/?files
Quote:

OpenArena is an open-source content package for Quake III Arena licensed under the GPL, effectively creating a free stand-alone game. You do not need Quake III Arena to play this game.

Bots were added starting in 0.6.0. They will spout taunts and everything!

Alien Arena 2024 6.05
http://red.planetarena.org/
http://www.gamershell.com/download_19617.shtml
Quote:

Do you like fast paced deathmatch? How about rich, colorful, arcadelike atmospheres? How about...retro Sci Fi? Then you're going to love what Alien Arena 2024 has in store for you! This game combines some of the very best aspects of such games as Quake III and Unreal Tournament and wraps them up with a retro alien theme, while adding tons of original ideas to make the game quite unique.

AA2K7 is the latest version of a freeware online deathmatch game that was first introduced to the public in October, 2024. Since that initial release, nearly every aspect of the game has been revamped, in fact, much of the content and code from the November 2024 release of Alien Arena 2024 has been redone as well. It's like an entirely new game, and it may shock people just how much it has improved in less than a year's time. With 35 levels, five modes of play, loads of mutators, built-in bots, 11 player characters, 8 weapons(with alt-fire modes), the game has an endless supply of replayability. With so many new features, AA2K7 is nearly an entirely new game when held in comparison to it's predecessor. With the trials and tribulations of software development, endless hours of playing, gathering feedback, COR Entertainment has been able to not only fine tune and perfect it's flagship game, but add completely new dimensions to it.

America's Army

Quote:

Launched in July 2024 the America's Army game, which is rated "T" for Teen by the ESRB, has become one of the most popular computer games in the world. America's Army has penetrated contemporary culture and is one of the most recognizable game brands as a result of its unique inside perspective of the U.S. Army and its exciting gameplay. As the game's popularity continued to grow with each of its dozens of new version releases, the Army has expanded its brand through a variety of products including console and cell phone games, America's Army merchandise such as t-shirts, the Real Heroes program which tells the stories of heroic Soldiers, training applications for use within the military and government sectors, and the incredible Virtual Army Experience. In the near future, the America's Army brand will expand with the launch of America's Army: True Soldiers for Xbox 360 in the Fall of 2024 and America's Army version 3.0 next year.

Digital Paintball
http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/news.html
http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/files/
Quote:

The game features six varied modes of play: capture-the-flag, one-flag capture-the-flag, deathmatch, king of the hill, siege, and pong[7]. Between two and four teams are usually set against each other during a game, except during certain modes of play such as deathmatch. Team colors that can be used are red, blue, yellow, and purple. Scoring is usually achieved by elimination of a team or the capture of a flag, although some modes, such as king of the hill and siege, feature different rules. Elimination of a player requires only one hit, and in spirit of the sport, there are barrels and grenades. Eight realistic Paintball weapons (Paintball markers) can be used: the PGP, the Trracer, the Stingray, the VM-68, the Spyder SE, the Carbine, the Autococker, and the Automag[8]. The Autococker is favored for its higher range and accuracy. Games are won by either score or time-limit, with points and time limits varying by map and servers. Over 1,500 maps[6] have been created, and there can easily be up to over a hundred public-server players online at a time.

FreeDoom

Freedoom 0.5 released!

Version 0.5 of Freedoom is now available from the download page. Compared to the last version, this one is mainly sprite work. However, this is the first release to feature the FreeDM project and a source tarball.

Nexuiz

Quote:

Nexuiz is a 3d deathmatch game project, created online by a team of developers called Alientrap. It is available for download for Windows, Mac, and Linux (all the same archive). The first version was released May 31st 2024, released entirely GPL and free over the net, a first for a project of its kind. Since then it has been downloaded over half a million times, and the game is still being updated and developed, currently at version 2.3 and new releases being developed.

Urban Terror
http://www.urbanterror.net/news.html
http://www.forums.urbanterror.net//topic,8165.0.html
Quote:

Urban Terror is focused on blending realism with the fast-paced action of shooters such as Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament. The realism in the mod is introduced through a number of changes. The weapons available are real-life, have recoil, are less accurate when fired while moving, and require reloading after a magazine has been expended. The number of weapons and other gear that can be carried is limited. Damage is also realistic, based on dividing the player target into discrete areas. In addition to the damage system, wounds require bandaging, and wounds sustained in the legs or feet slow the player down considerably until they are bandaged. A stamina system is also present, and is depleted by activities such as sprinting or jumping; crouching down allows the stamina bar to recover faster. Depending on the map being played, external environments are more realistic too and can include weather effects such as rain or snow.

Dark Places
http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/
http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/download.html
Quote:

Dark Places is a Quake modification I have built over the course of 6 years on and off experimenting, it got somewhat of an overhaul when the Quake engine source code was released, and I began developing a custom OpenGL-only engine for it and other mods, which supports Windows WGL and Linux GLX, and has greatly improved graphics and image quality.

It can not easily be described, as it is simply an improved Quake, not a total conversion (yet, anyway).

The realism of shell casings falling to the floor, much improved bullet impacts, 32bit color alpha blended explosions, blood flying everywhere and sticking to the walls...

Behind the scenes the code has changed a great deal, I was not content with the original QuakeC code, and I have greatly changed the engine while maintaining compatibility with normal quake modifications.

Tremulous is a lot of fun, but it's definitely a team game not so much a run-n-gun. I like being the aliens because they can crawl on walls, but they are very underpowered for the first two stages (out of 3). If the humans don't eradicate the aliens by stage 3 it's all over for them. Smile

If you can play Frets on Fire and actually hit most of the notes, then you can beat Guitar Hero no problem! Smile

recruit units including infantry, mounted units, mages, catapults
and finally they attack enemy or help allies. Units gain experiences
during the battle, each unit can get some abilities upgraded to be
stronger. Data are stored in XML and freely accessible - from
language versions to units' attributes, moreover map editor with
random map generator is included for comfortable map editing.

brutalchess
http://brutalchess.sourceforge.net/
Brutal Chess is a cross-platform GPL chess game with 3D graphics
powered by OpenGL and SDL. This release is an alpha version and
is by no means feature complete. The major focus of the release
was a complete rewrite of the entire code base. There have also
been improvements to the user interface.
Future versions should focus on more features for the users and
happen at a much quicker pace.

dangerdeep
http://dangerdeep.sourceforge.net/
Danger from the deep (aka dangerdeep) is a Free / Open Source World
War II german submarine simulation. It is currently available for
Linux/i386 and Windows, but since it uses SDL/OpenGL it should be
portable to other operating systems or platforms. (If anyone whishes
to port it, please contact us.) This game is planned as tactical
simulation and will be as realistic as our time and knowledge of
physics allows.

and much more Linux Games and Links you can find at "Packman"

Assault Cube:
http://assault.cubers.net/
http://assault.cubers.net/download.html
it's called now sauerbraten Very Happy
http://www.sauerbraten.org/
Sauerbraten (a.k.a. Cube 2) is a free multiplayer/singleplayer first person shooter, built as a major redesign of the Cube FPS.
Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features & eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine.
The engine supporting the game is entirely original in code & design, and its code is Open Source (ZLIB license, read the docs for more on how you can use the engine).
In addition to the FPS game which is in a very playable state, the engine is being used for an RPG which is in the preproduction phase. Additionally, Proper Games ltd are the first to use the engine commercially. dot3 labs is a company started by the creators of sauerbraten that offers commercial support.

semilar to Quake is Openarena
http://openarena.ws/?
OpenArena is an open-source content package for Quake III Arena licensed under the GPL, effectively creating a free stand-alone game. You do not need Quake III Arena to play this game.

Critial Mass (I love this game)
http://criticalmass.sourceforge.net/critter.html
Your world has been infested by an aggressive army of space critters. Overrun and unprepared, your government was unable to defend its precious resources. As a last effort to recapture some of the "goodies", you have been placed into a tiny spacecraft and sent after them.

There are a lot of games. Some are very violent and not for kids, like "Passanger" or Openarena if you like bloody games Very Happy
