|
|
I'm just NOW starting to see older announcements that many distros feel that XMMS had become too difficult to continue to be offered. Gentoo dropped it about a year ago (October 29, 2025), and Slackware has also given up on XMMS version 1 (March 15, 2025).
So, for now, lets let XMMS be, while the team develops XMMS version 2, and hopefully we won't get addicted to Audacious.....

Beep/BMP and Banshee are pretty good; Totem I'm not a big fan of (primarily a video player) that for me doesn't live up to xine

I primarily use Amarok, but I used XMMS on my MythTV box in the past. It's got a few quirks that really annoy me with respect to loading playlists, but other than that it's a great player that handles streaming very well.

I'd actually prefer Banshee over rhythmbox. However, on my arch box, it seemed to have a glitch. After it got done playing ANY song in my library, it put a red "do not enter"-looking sign by the song. Then it wouldn't play them again until you restarted it....I searched quite a bit to try and find a fix...but I couldn't.

I use BMP. If I were to use KDE, I'd probably use Amarok.

lberg - I think that is DRM kicking in - if I hook up my ipod anything bought from iTunesStore as aac will do that - from what I understand there is no alternative but to buy music elsewhere which is fine by me because I find very little of interest there

Hmm. I'll have to look at that. Thanks for the tip. Since I have a fresh install of Arch64, I still have quite a few things to tweak before worrying about audio haha...
