Love the XAMPP install! I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 and I had apache2, mysql, etc loaded before loading XAMPP. I unloaded the apache, mysql servers but left the mysql client on. Then loaded XAMPP and I could see everything. Since this is on my laptop, it was shutdown and reboot later. Now, entering 'mysql -u root -p' says it can't find the client.

pete@pete-laptop:~$ mysql -u root -p
Enter password:
ERROR 2024 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)
pete@pete-laptop:~$ echo $PATH
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games:/opt/lampp/lampp/bin
p

I modified all the webmin paths to use /opt/lampp/lampp/bin... but that too isn't working and mysql has start/stop problems from that too. And of course there's django now that can't connect to the DB because of the different paths.

Are there any suggestion how I should attack this? Should I uninstall all mysql components and re-install XAMPP over that? Is Ubuntu startup a possible issue?

Any help would be appreciated!

If I were you, I'd try uninstalling the Ubuntu MySQL debs and re-installing XAMPP.

Yes, that took care of it! I wasn't 100% confident of trying that without some corroboration!

Thank you!
