Duration: 3-6 months with opp. to go Perm

Job Description:
Supporting a group of PHDs
Provide technical support to Investment Office. Technical support will range across a variety of platforms:
Linux Servers, including Cluster File Sharing Server
Routine system administration and file system maintenance
OS, application and hardware installation, upgrades, updates and configuration
Daily and ad hoc backups and tape management
Hardware and software troubleshooting
User account maintenance
Desktops
OS, application and hardware installation, updates and configuration
Hardware and software troubleshooting
Day to day end user operational support
User account maintenance
Other systems
Hardware, software and applications installation and maintenance of tape library, laptops, blackberries, printers, UPS’s, peripherals
Supervision and configuration of server room; coordination of power and HVAC vendors and camera and card reader security system
Installation of upgrades, patches and maintenance of network equipment including hubs, switches and patch panels
Manage vendor relationships in regard to installation, upgrades, updates and support of hardware and software
Responsible for integration into various technology processes including but not limited to; change and incident management, SOX compliance and security policies
Available 24x7 to resolve critical support issues as required. Non-working hours availability via paging and either remote or on-site access to systems
Required Qualifications:
Experience supporting client server systems and end user desktops
Extensive Linux Red Hat experience and associated certifications
Experience with industry standard hardware components including servers, PCs and network equipment
Experience supporting Investments related distributed desktop applications, financial services (Bloomberg, FactSet, Charles River, Bridge Information Systems, etc) and/or other related Investment experience
Software development experience, especially in implementing tools and libraries
Technical understanding of corporate network environment
Install new software, apply patches, and adapt new software to the system. Perform backups and recoveries of data. Maintain security, monitor functioning of computer systems, hardware and the network. Troubleshoot issues with the LAN and internet. Back up the servers. Plan and implement solutions to improve performance, security, scalability, and manageability of the system. Create documentation of procedures. Develop Shell/Perl scripts for automation.
