When booting (GRUB) up, I get a sort of warning that I passed some sort of "mode" and need to hit SPACE or ENTER to continue. A pretty common thing with Live CD's and I attributed the hang to not entering my video settings properly. Now, with this installed Slack 12, I get the warning even though I think the screen settings are correct.

Since I can see the grub script at starting, I am thinking there must be something to configure in grub itself to match xorg files. Can I just tinker with the "vga=790" part of the grub to eliminate the irritant??

thanks, platinummonkey, I just got laid low by a smacking cold (3.5 hour nap!!). Will get into the config swing soon, though.

Basically, I removed the "vga=790" in the GRUB boot command line and everything boots smoothly. Don't know why that got in there (it may have been copied in from another script, on my part). Am thinking the vga settings for the booting process are pretty low resolution. Don't really need much video info to scroll the process, right??

All you have to do is edit your first post and change the subject there.

I changed it for you. Wink

... but for some reason, I had to remove the quotes from Enter and Space. No matter what I added to the end, I ended up with

Booting hangs until I hit "Space" or "Enter&q

OK, thanks for covering mr_ed. The weird letters may be from my side as I am working to get Tibetan script to work in Slack like it works in SuSE. No luck so far, but it keeps my mind active.
