While this page is nowhere near as comprehensive and complete as the original article in this topic, this page offers a simple approach - especially to GRUB, and it explains each step along the way. May be a useful complement to the other article:

Roderick W. Smith, whom I have found to be a pretty good writer, has written an article for IBM Developer Works on migrating from GRUB legacy to GRUB 2. Bruce Byfield also has a series, where he is covering GRUB legacy, then GRUB 2. Roderick's article is at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-grub2/

Linux Planet has also had a series of articles on GRUB and GRUB 2; found them at http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/tutorials/7004/1/.

I have not yet run across the URL to Bruce's series. If I find it I will pass it along as well.

No, but the links I provided earlier today tell you about GRUB 2, and here is the project page: http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/grub-2.en.html - the official GRUB 2.

Also, here is a page for Ubuntu with more information:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2 and http://grub.enbug.org/ is the GRUB Wiki. Finally, http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Grub2 is the Gentoo Linux GRUB 2 Wiki, which is quite good, and http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/ is the GRUB legacy manual documentation.

Does that help?

Seems his ISP terminated his site. . .

Quote:
I just opened my email this morning and in came the usual monthy blurb from my ISP, including this news about about BigPond removing Personal Homepage, Personal Website and Webstart services from the market on 30th September 2024.

More information. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.html?t=1176678

Here's a link to his new site . . . http://members.iinet.net/~herman546/

legacy grub page . . . http://members.iinet.net.au/~herman546/p15.html

grub 2 page . . . http://members.iinet.net/~herman546/p20.html

This is such an old thread I don't remember much about the original content on his first grub page. Embarassed

This is really good stuff. There is a great deal of material that is specifically pertinent to Ubuntu, but plenty of tips and techniques that are transferable to other systems as well, so thanks for sharing it with everyone!

You may not feel the same way about GRUB 2. It takes some getting used to!

That sounds ominous Sad I guess I's better look at your link and see what's up ...... BTW, why change a good thing? What didn't they like about the original?

@masinick: I see you picked up the torch Smile things are working a bit better for me now with GRUB2 (despite the dalliance with burg & plymouth), but still don't have FreeBSD fixed.

I'm thinking of documenting a GRUB Legacy > GRUB2 guide of my own based on a multi drive multi-OS (more than one linux, one Windows, and one *BSD) set-up but it'll have to wait for the weekend, so that I can (a) get it working for me (!) (b) replicate it (c) document it and then post it

@JP: I'm thinking you may not be liking GRUB2 as much as what you've been using Sad I too loved the simplicity of G Legacy; I know why they updated, but I'm not appreciating the model they've gone for - the best to hope for is that G2 is still beta and when it goes 2.0 it'll be a much simpler tool

Well, from what I've read so far, Grub (legacy) is no longer
