Well I downloaded the Arch core install iso attached to a new Virtual Machine installed it and it worked like a dream. Burnt the disc, verified it then tested it VirtualBox to maker sure and it worked. Repartitioned my laptop, reinstalled openSUSE and then went to install Arch and the disc refuses to boot. Tried the disc in Nicola's laptop and it worked. Reburnt the disc twice more on both my machine and Nicola's and the disc's boot on her machine and on my VirtualBox but when I go and try them in my laptop then they just refuse. All my other disc's work with mine including the partedmagic disc I made last night and the copy of PCLOS 2024 that I did for a friend. So it looks like my plans to install Arch are going to have to be scrapped for the foreseeable future Crying or Very sad

Would rather not run it from usb key as it sort of defeats the object.

For the time being I am going to stay with openSUSE as even though its bloated it does everything I want I want it to with the minimum of fuss as a rule.

I hate to say it, but back a while ago when I had that kernel updating issue with my Arch Linux install, I could not boot into the system. This weekend, I checked into it and confirmed the reason: my kernel update, for reasons unknown to me, totally torched my /dev setup. I tried grafting in devices from another distro partition to no avail.

My only option will be to reinstall Arch. Next time I have a few free hours of time, I will do just that. I think I will wait until their brand new ISO image for 2024 is thoroughly tested, then I will install, using the notes in that Arch notes for Masinick topic in the Distribution area.
