Barco software has a free edition of their SeaFarer GPS Navigation software and it comes in RPM and DEB packages.
I installed it to mint and it was a snap! It utilizes NOAA RNC charts which can be down loaded for free, Barco even has down load that will give you every chart for the US 1.9 gigs of NOAA RNC maps!
Oh and they are looking for beta testers for the next version Wink see their forum to apply

I was shocked when I have seen there Price
NavimaQ for OS X (Retail Packaging) 99.95 USD
NavimaQ for OS X (Download)
SeaFarer 45.00 USD
SeaView For Linux 800.00 USD
