Personally I use mpd and mpdscribble daemonized at system zstartup and either mpc or sonata for controlling mpd.

I recently started using Exaile but was previously using Amarok almost exclusively regardless of which desktop environment I used. Just like K3b - it's an application that I think is really well done and liked a lot.
Since the poll didn't specify whether it's "what you use most" vs. "what you're currently using", I put exaile - but Amarok wins the "use most" poll from a historical perspective.
I also use VLC and mplayer for video.

mainly sonata these days but I still check on banshee and rhythmbox from time to time
I've used most but nota ll in the list - I think I have to give props to amarok which I tried as part of a short-lived experiment with a kde-4.0 spin of (k?)ubuntu a couple of months ago; the overall kde/ubuntu experience was mixed, but amarok was one of the qt apps that shone for me (just like k3b) - very well done
I note that despite an expansive list, songbird is not on there - still early days but I liked the concept

| I usually use Totem on my first try, but after it crashes or fails to open the media (like usual), I'll switch to usually mplayer for video, or bmp for streaming audio.

Thats probably because it isn't in Gentoo portage, which is where i got the list from.

Thats probably because it isn't in Gentoo portage, which is where i got the list from.

maybe not in portage but it can be added to an overlay with this ebuild
that said, I wouldn't use it regularly just yet - it's just an interesting concept

I guess you were referring more specifically to audio players? When I think of a media player on a PC I tend to think of Video, or Video+Audio
I've never even heard of 2/3 of the players on that list, yet something as big as VLC isn't on there O.o??
For MP3s I use XMMS or Amarok.
For Video, mplayer or VLC.

| xmms with kaffeine frontend most often. Works well, and I'm still partial to KDE 3.5.x so no problems with it.

I'm checking out this Songbird player. Quite good actually. I like the Hypemachine plug-in.
Aside from it's inability to play CDs and import them (or AIFF files, but I don't have any of those) it's a nice little player. Be nice if it could minimize to the system tray like Banshee, Amarok, or Exaile, but basically it's Firefox + media player but centered around the music not the browser.

| There's another player out there called jajuk http://www.jajuk.info//Main_Page Its another maturing product. Looks promising, but I found it a bit slow. I just keep going back to amarok, but will have to give exhaile a try.
