Hello all,

I have a box running smoothwall 3.0 acting as firewall and dhcp server to two other machines. On one machine I have installed the IM software Pidgin 2.4.1. I can't find a way to make smoothwall let pidgin get through. I've tried Port Forwarding in smoothwall to send requests at port 5222 to the IP address of the pc using pidgin (5222 is the "Listening Port" shown under pidgin's properties).

What do I need to do to allow IM with pidgin?

Thanks in advance.

Jonathan

Should be a matter of adding the proper ports through.

looking at the pidgin FAQ (clik) i see that the folowing ports should be unblocked
* 443 -> MSN (ssl)
* 1863 -> MSN
* 5050 -> Yahoo
* 5190 -> AIM/ICQ
* 5222 -> XMPP (including Google Talk)
* 6667 -> IRC

so if you only unblock 5222 you should expect only the XMPP protocol to work.
