I just recently upgraded to gnome 2.22 on Gentoo 2024.0 amd64 and was disappointed that the nautilus tooltip menu no longer shows any of the file-roller options to extract an archive or to create one from the selected items.

I've done some digging in the manuals and through google and I haven't been able to find anything that explains how to get those menu items back. Everything I've read says i should always have them.

This worked before the update, so why doesn't it now?

Not sure if this will help you or not, but I found an article: here.

I also found information that a couple of Ubuntu users also experienced issues with Nautilus and file-roller here.

Ehh.... I got it fixed now.

It seems that the folks over at Gentoo headquarters added a use flag that controlls that nautilus integration to fileroller that was not set in my installation.

Silly me! @_@

Code:
dragonfly@Sakura ~ $ equery u file-roller
[ Searching for packages matching file-roller... ]
[ Colour Code : set unset ]
[ Legend : Left column  (U) - USE flags from make.conf              ]
[        : Right column (I) - USE flags packages was installed with ]
[ Found these USE variables for app-arch/file-roller-2.22.4 ]
 U I
 - - debug    : Enable extra debug codepaths, like asserts and extra output. If you want to get meaningful backtraces see http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/backtraces.xml
+ + nautilus : Enable file-roller to integrate with gnome-base/nautilus by providing entries in its context menu.
