@ platinummonkey I have a dual core 3.6 ghz processor running at 7,189 bogomips per core using 64bit Arch..... KDE rocks !! Razz

But I do like openbox Wink

Very interesting article, great screenshots too. Gives a pretty good selection of WM's to choose from if you want to go outside the box a bit. Very useful if you have an older machine.

Yup. Some folks would be surprised with what you can accomplish when using a lightweight window manager on old hardware.

Seems to have descended into a 'favourite DE' thread.
Fluxbox. I like the interface, and have used it for years.
At the moment I'm running KDE (3.5 mind you, didn't really like 4.1) on my main box (Core 2 Quad @ 3.3ghz) for compiz, but I reckon I'll be back on fluxbox before long - I try other ones from time to time just to see the state of play.

gnome, because it just works
openbox because it's light and elegant
e17 because it's innovative

I have also used kde, blackbox, fluxbox, waimea, e16, fvwm, xfce, pekwm, icewm and probably some more

now just imagine how much more you can get from it using a less bloated wm!!! Very HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery Happy lol, but thats just me talking Razz

To me, i never felt like I really had control over kde everytime i use it, gnome is quickly getting to that point, but the others, I've always felt like i can make it do literelly anything without that sense of "big brother WM" just my $0.02 Razz

Xfce4 w/compiz-fusion on my desktop AMD64 X2 4000+
dwm/wmii/fluxbox on my laptop Intel Celeron M
cli on my fileserver
