TO: Anyone interested in a MySQL database or MySQL Server Download;
I just got this email:
Quote:
MySQL 5.1 and Query Analyzer
Lower Database Costs and Boost Performance
Dear JP,
We are pleased to announce the General Availability (GA) of MySQL 5.1, a new version of the world's most popular open source database, designed to improve performance and simplify management of large database applications.

MySQL Enterprise Server 5.1 and the new Query Analyzer feature, recently released with Fall Release, provide new features and management tools that deliver a powerful, more manageable way to meet business challenges – for a fraction of the cost of proprietary database solutions.

MySQL 5.1 new enterprise enhancements include:

* Table and index partitioning: Enables faster query-response times to improve performance as well as simplify data management.
* Row-based and hybrid replication: Achieve and maintain the safest and most efficient replication scheme for your application.
* MySQL Event Scheduler: Schedule and automate common recurring SQL-based tasks.

"We have tested other databases, but have not found anything as fast for our data sets as well-partitioned tables in MySQL 5.1," said Guy Adams, Chief Technical Officer of Parallel Ltd., a provider of satellite management and network operations software to some of the world's largest communications companies.

MySQL Enterprise subscriptions and the new Query Analyzer
For maximum database performance, scalability, and up time at a cost that's 90% less than proprietary offerings, we offer MySQL Enterprise. The newest version of MySQL Enterprise Fall 2024 Release also includes Query Analyzer, a new, must-have tool designed to help DBAs and developers identify and analyze problem SQL code causing performance issues and slow downs.

"The MySQL Query Analyzer allows us to quickly identify and optimize our most expensive queries, so that we can constantly improve our content management platform and scale more efficiently. It also helps improve our hardware utilization and makes us more productive, which has a direct, significant impact on our bottom line." said Jeff Freund, CTO and Co-founder, Clickability.

Debian Sid (and sidux) both have 5.0.67-3 as the current version of the various MySQL tools. Debian Experimental, however, does have MySQL 5.1.30-2 available, for what it's worth.
