I'll take KDE4 over Gnome...but BARELY.
If I knew how to get a graphical file manager set up as well as Konqueror on KDE3, I'd probably be willing to do gnome instead of KDE4. But I don't. (IE - dual panel, ability to have the "system" and "storage media" quick buttons, terminal emulator, button to open terminal, no text on toolbars, etc.)

KDE3 is still king of the window managers. GNOMEs belong in the garden, not on the desktop.

I guess I've used KDE for most of the time I've been using Linux.... there was that time long long ago when I used redhat..... but I really do prefer KDE, it's just more polished and it's much easier to switch people to the KDE desktop from M$ than it is to get them to switch to gnome or xfce or some other dm/wm. At least, that's been my experience.

KDE3 was not bad. I only preferred GNOME over it for small, mostly visual/aesthetic reasons. But I like GNOME a lot more than KDE4. KDE4 just doesn't appeal to me.
Actually, I'm using Xubuntu on my slower laptop, and I'm really getting to like XFCE. At this point, I don't think it will replace GNOME for me, but it's a very nice DE that I will continue to use.

Having started with Mandrake, and some others that are the reason I am no longer able to hold my wine glass...or beer bottle for shaking, all of which used KDE once it became available..I have an affinity for K aps. In particular, Konqueror, and K3b. I used to buy Red Hat in days of yore ( before cable ), but never really cared for the way it felt. Gnome aps just did not cut it for me.
Of late, I have run several open box, xfce, and other lite desktops. They usually leave me feeling like I am still using Amiga, or a Commadore, but I can't find the 5 1/2 floppy <G><
Well, better implementations of xfce, not so much...
In any case, I would side KDE..even if it is KDE4 Barf. Those above are correct, a Gnome belongs in the garden. ~ snicker[/b]
BTW, my misile defense shield is up, skywatch is armed and ready, and the marines are on alert.
