I was wanting to dual boot ubuntu with vista and found a tutorial but... I'm not sure if i have enough hardrive space. My laptop has a horrible 33gb hardrive... So if somone could let me know what the smallest amount of HDD space you need is that would be great! Very Happy

This could probably go under Installation and Bootloaders.

But back on topic, How much do you expect to save in each operating system? Primarily using Windows or Ubuntu? Where will most of your files be?

Most of my saving will probably be on Windows till I get comfortable with Linux. I'm currently trying to learn VB 6.0, and then I am going to try C. Which I could use with Linux, but i was asking because I only have 2.34gb left of free space on my HDD. I am thinking about buying a 320gb external HDD to give me more space so thats is why i was asking.

You have a 33gb hard disk with only 2.34gb free? My Ubuntu install on my laptop uses 3.2gb. Anyway you can install a second internal hard disk?

I have the game Guild Wars downloaded and it takes up quite a bit of space with maps and updates. But i think it would just be easier to get an external HDD and hook it up via USB. Just wandering can you run Windows programs on Linux if you dual boot?? For instance could I search for wireless networks using windows while on Linux? I was asking since my Wireless Card won't run on Linux unfortunately.

Some windows apps will run under wine in Linux. wine is a operating system emulator. Tricks the app into thinking it's running in a windows install.

No.

I bet it will. Post your card specs in the Networking forum.

sure is. It'll suffer a performance loss due to the limited bandwidth of the USB connection but it'll run just fine.

no special prep is required to install this way, just so long as you make *ABSOLUTELY* sure you are installing to your external. If you mess up and install to your internal instead you'll hose your windows install and have to reinstall.
