Not sure how many of you have heard of "Saikee", but he is the guy who even puts my multi-boot GRUB configurations to shame. My peak was twelve distributions on one system; I typically max out in the six to eight range. Saikee does 100-140, and it seems to continue to climb.

Moreover, Saikee investigates stuff at various levels and does so in depth. I don't know what kind of job or life he has that enables him to do this, but in any case, he does an awesome job.

In this next series of Saikee conquests, Saikee takes a look at USB memory devices. Some have suggested that USB memory devices do not always work with GRUB. Well, Saikee dispels that in a hurry, with actual tests conducted on EIGHTEEN different USB memory devices. See what I mean? This guy goes all out and gets the answers with in depth experimentation and analysis until he figures it out!

His latest in the series is over at Just Linux Forum and I recommend it as reading for anyone that uses GRUB and also for anyone who is looking into the use of USB devices for storage or even for running a Linux system.

I remember saikee from the techsupportguy Linux forums I used to frequent a few years ago.
Quite a character. Smile

Clearly he is a supreme testing geek. I just wonder if he has any other life at all. His notes have been quite helpful though and I have referred to them more than once.

The booting of the 7 compact flash cards showed up one thing I did not know about the multi-devices card readers. It appears that each card readers may have a factory-fitted detection sequence and the order the devices assigned for my Eagletec and Milk Drop card readers are

1st --> SD card
2nd --> Compact Flash card
3rd --> XD card
4th --> Memory stick

Therefore with a card readers I could only boot from the first device the SD cards and not the others like the memory stick, CF or XD card.

One I was not aware of either. Explains several problems I have run into
