|
|
I am looking to find a new media player and would like suggestions.
For ages I have used MPD with mpc (CLI) or Sonata (GUI) and have been extremely happy with them.
But they do not support media players. In the past i have used amarok for the rare times i needed to update the content on my ipod, but I have just upgraded to a Sansa Fuze and Amarok just "upgraded" to 2.0. I never liked amarok as it was a KDE app and I am a gnome-boy, but Amarok 2.0 is absolutely unusable for me.
So i need to find a new player for syncing my Fuze (Sakura). My single requirement is simple but apparently hard to find.
1) it should support viewing my collection in directory mode.
I have my collection set up in a fairly rigid directory structure that I understand and remember, but no media player I have found (other than MPD) uses the actual directory structure of the library as a view of the library. Amarok had/has the filesystem view which is not optimal but workable.
If anyone knows of a media player (gtk based for preference, but i am flexable) that supports media players (the Fuze in particular) and directory view of the music collection please tell me. If it uses MPD as a backend that would be ultra-bonus.
I have tried:
Rhythmbox (annoying in the extreme but works, does not have directory view)
Exaile (does not work)
Amarok 2 (segfaults unless I am actually using KDE and then is absolutely hideous)

Banshee?
I don't know about directory view, but I like it as a music player. Right now, I'm using Rhythmbox, though. Banshee doesn't seem to install well for me on Arch.

I think this will be something for you! | it looks nice but does it interface with my media player? I can't seem to find that functionality.

Quodlibet is working pretty nice so far. I'm not ready to adopt it full time as it seems to have some interesting behavior that I need to figure out.... once i do i may well drop MPD entirely...

like I said it's been a while since I last used it - what in particular are you referring to in the interesting behaviour?

It's interface with the media player is... unique. Sometimes it will do odd things like dispolay every track on the device twice and stuff like that...
once i figure that out then it'll be golden.

I found that I'd installed quodlibet (currentlyv.2.0.4) on my Arch64 at some stage so I've been playing with it and I don't get the issue you mention when I plug in my iPod (HFS+)
Which OS, which version of quodlibet, media-player [url=http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-details/?device=HTC+FUZE(TM)&q_sku=sku3090226](this one?)[/url] and anything else relevant?
Have you hacked that phone or is still WinMobile based?

[exasperation]why are the url tags killing me today?[/exasperation]
OK - hardware clarified, OS environment clearer - we're basically running the same set-up bar the media-player - anything else we can do to eliminate other variables?
(I'll get to this tomorrow - I'm in gentoo64 timing a gcc compile <-- yes I am that sad)
