Anyone got a high end nvidia card and gaming in linux? (2008/2009 model)

Are all the latest models supported equally well?

About to spend some time looking into this.

But wondered if anyone had first hand experience.

The newest I have is a PCIe 9800 with a gig of RAM, but technically, even though new, it is the older technology. Had no support problems with the games in Sabayon 4. Most Linux come up with the default monitor resolution and great video. A few I have to add drivers manually, which only improves the response.

I am not into doing games as such, but test them

Best I can do <G><

@Ephemeral: JaDa and I had a discussion on support for high-end Nvidia cards (2xx series) in this thread here (page 2)

It is my understanding (from sources quoted in the post linked above & from personal experience) that all the 2xx-series work fine in linux - caveats will be KDE4 (there were some issues) and any of the mobile versions of the cards - both are areas I have limited to no experience in.

I think JaDa has the beefiest card on the boards at the moment with a EVGA 896-P3-1260-TR GeForce GTX 260 - I may go for a 295 after the 300-series gets put out - currently XFX-GTS 250.

JaDa's also put up some of the most extensive listings/critiques of linux gaming on these boards so I'd wait for him to chime in or PM him direct.

FWIW solitaire looks great on this Wink j/k I have played some games like Wolfenstein and America's Army, Quake3 and 4 plus some of the Loki games when I was using a dual PIII 1G + GF3-500-ti set-up and they were completely playable.

I don't game now so you'll have to ask others. It may help if you know which games you want to play and whether you'll be using linux-native or WINE.

Geforce 8800 GT.

Works beautifully for gaming. Excellent drivers support.

The only video issues i run into these days are Wine's fault not nvidias

@jada: any hints on favourite games you have been playing recently? i.e. native linux binaries or WINE
