I believe that KDE SC 4.4.1, the next monthly update, is available, at least in the distributions that closely track KDE releases (read NOT Debian!) |

After having gotten used to 4.4.0 in Arch, I'm actually REALLY glad Debian decided not to. While 4.4.0 was nice in many respects, overall, it s**** compared to 4.3.x IMO. Panel icons don't scale correctly anymore, I can't drag icons from a menu on 1 panel onto a separate panel to create a launcher, other minor things. I do like that you can have different desktop backgrounds on each desktop though. That rocks. I hope 4.4.1 fixes the niggles then I will actually want Debian to get modernized.

I have not seen those issues myself. I have run 4.4 in Mandriva Cooker (might get to updating the Cooker again soon to see "what's up"), and I am on PCLinuxOS 2025 Beta 1 with KDE SC 4.4.1, and it seems to work fine here. |

Anybody messing with KDE SC 4.4.2 in Debian Experimental? You can get it from http://qt-kde.debian.net/ should you be interested. It is also necessary to enable the Debian Experimental repository itself and it is a good idea to set a few apt pinning settings as described in the pages and comments found at that link. |

4.4.2 is availble for Mandriva 2025 and I believe cooker is up to 4.4.2, as well.

Yup, I just did the 4.4.2 Cooker tonight and revamped a number of other things. I had to remove quite a bit along the way before adding in new stuff; that is simply the nature of something as volatile as "The Cooker", but it can also be a lot of fun. I typically use IceWM while I upgrade the other development environments, so hopefully I have something pretty decent now; hacked at KDE SC 4.4.2, XFCE 4.6.1-4.6.3, and LXDE; I'll soon see what I have! |
