sidux 2024-01 announcement

I've been waiting for this one. slh seems to have a preference for releasing his software when he reaches the ninth update of the sidux kernel - he's done it again.

KDE SC 4.4.4 was released recently and a number of other Sid packages were straightened out, paving the way for this release. It's a good one as usual.

Quote:
Distribution Release: sidux 2024-01
sidux 2024-01, a new version of the desktop distribution with KDE or Xfce based on Debian's unstable branch, has been released: "Now that KDE 4.4.4 and kernel 2.6.34 have entered the archive, we have the pleasure to announce the immediate availability of the final sidux 2024-01 'Hypnos' release. While waiting for the availability of KDE 4.4.x, 'Hypnos' development concentrated on overhauling the early boot sequence for live and installed systems with regards to concurrent dependency-based booting and the integration of kernel 2.6.34. sidux now uses CONCURRENCY=makefile and continues to embrace GRUB 2 on the installed system, with isolinux and an improved gfxboot theme on the live system. KDE-based ISO images can now make use of Partition Manager instead of GParted. As usual, a large number of individual functionality enhancements and bug fixes have been applied to the full package line-up." Read the detailed release notes for further information.

It is to me anyway. I don't need to download it; I have all of the bits in place already on two of my systems, thanks to rolling upgrades! Smile

The only one ( install ) have left I remember about, is one of the pre's. But there is no reason not to try and go from there I suppose.

If you have a fat network bandwidth, then any image within the past year or so will be easy to use. You won't have any more to download that you would have if you downloaded an ISO image - EXCEPT for the fact that the sidux ISO image is really well compressed. I don't know if they can beat the Debian package compression - Debian uses bz2 compressed images.
