Hi! Well, after talking to MSN Tech Support (sounded like it was Outsourced to India both times I called...) I've gotten as far as the server names being correct. Unfortunately, when I tried checking, it didn't work.

The following is how I configured my KMail---

In "Configure KMail"
Identities GENERAL:
Your Name: Starlok
Organization: Nunoyer Business Systems
EMail address: nospam@msn.com
ADVANCED:
Reply-To address: blank
BCC addresses: blank
OpenPGP key: blank
Sent-mail folder: sent-mail
Drafts folder: drafts
Special Transport: -UNCHECKED-
SIGNATURE:
Enable Signature: -UNCHECKED-

Network SENDING: Name: MSN Type: smtp (Default)
GENERAL:
Name: MSN
Host: smtp.email.msn.com
Port: 25
Precommand: blank
Server requires
authentication:-UNCHECKED-
Send custom host
name to server:-UNCHECKED-
SECURTY:
Encryption: None
Authentication
Method: -Grayed Out-
RECEIVING: Name: MSN Type: pop Folder: inbox
GENERAL:
Name: MSN
Login: nospam@msn.com
Password: ************
Host: pop3.email.msn.com
Port: 110
Store POP password in configuration file: -UNCHECKED-
Delete message from server after fetching: -UNCHECKED-
Exclude from "Check Mail": -UNCHECKED-
Filter messages if they are greater than: -UNCHECKED-
Enable interval mail checking: -UNCHECKED-
Destination folder: inbox
Precommand: blank
EXTRAS:

I Realize that this is a LOT of data, but I really don't know where I went wrong. can anybody PLEASE tell me what needs to be changed?

The sooner that I can wean myself of using Windows to access the internet, the safer I'll feel.

thanks!

Starlok

Edited by Xeroid. Probably not a good idea to post your actual email address in the forum. You'll start getting spam like you wouldn't believe. I edited it. You can change it back if you perfer. Smile

Hmmm. That didn't work. All I get is a message saying: "Could not login to pop3.email.msn.com.
The server said: "command not implemented""

I tried suing both my E-Mail address and the MSN/starlok for login names and no luck...

Thanks. Is there something I might have to do through YAST2?

I had a simular problem with kmail on Mandrake 9.2 and SuSE 9.0. I never did figure out what I was setting up wrong.

Do you have evolution installed? I just entered the same information into evolution and it worked first try on both distros.

An ugly, but often effective, way of testing this is to manually telnet to the mail server (on port 110, of course). Then you can see what's being asked for, and get the raw error messages. This is, however, only recommended for the seriously geeky folks who care to learn what the POP3 protocol actually looks like.
