I'm still a Linux noob. Been running Mandrake 9.2 for a couple months now and am feeling quite comfortable with it but I have this nagging problem.
When in Mozilla and I click on a link to an image I always get a box pop up that asks me if I want to 'Open The File With' where I have to choose the app each time, or 'Save To Disk'. I go through each time and select usr/bin/mozilla and it opens fine in the browser. I just have to go through this process for eachand every .jpg I click on. If I click on a link to a MP3 file, XMMS automatically opens up and plays the file. Xine opens automatically when I click a .mov file so I'm sure it is just something easy that I'm overlooking. I just can't seem to figure out what it is. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

You are correct crouse. Mandrake 9.1. I think the problem is with Mozilla. I can double click on a .jpg file from the file manager and the pics open with Kuickshow. I'm only having a problem when I'm clicking through links online. I went through the config settings but no joy. The problem is still there.
BTW. Thanks for all your help crouse, here and at TIMO. Without this site, I'd be stuck with Windows forever.

Q: a jpeg from a web page is the only graphic which does not load?

A graphic on a web page loads just fine, but if I click on, for example,
http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/attachment.html?s=212b42111f019c8ec80e70f94ce84ce3&postid=4712402
which is a .jpg file that Windows handles effortlessly, Mozilla makes me go through the entire process of selecting which program to use to open that type of file on each link I click. Now, upon seeing exactly what the links look like to Mozilla, It may be a bit of a different story. It isn't really a link to a jpg but php forum stuff that I don't have a clue about.

I noticed that as I read your last post.
I think Mozilla needs to be configured to evaluate this particular php as an image. But php is not an image format, but is a script (AFAIK).
Crouse - any ideas?

From a web page I visited...... see if this helps... I'm not in front of my linux box right now...
Quote: | How do I make Mozilla my default browser?
The first time you run the browser, it should ask you if you want to make Mozilla your default browser. If you answered ‘no’ and later decide you would like it to act as your default browser goto preferances, click on Advanced, and then System. Under ‘file types’, check ‘HTML’, ‘XHTML’ and ‘XML’; under ‘protocols’, check all boxes. You can also tell Mozilla to open various image types by default.

OK. I have set Mozilla at the top of the list in the KDE control panel. No change. In Mozilla, I went to:
Edit>Preferences>Advanced. System is not listed. I have Scripts & Plugins, Keyboard Navigator, Cache, HTTP Networking, Software Install, Mouse Wheel.
Am I looking in the wrong place? I'm using Mozilla 1.3.1

Any chance that Netscape is installed on the same PC?

Might be the installer script.
open a terminal,
type answer the questions, see if Netscape comes up.
