Revised to add brainbench transcript, added minor tweaks and emphasized testing skills.

Interviewing for a 3rd time at Staples for an electronics associate position. Only part time, but may be better than stocking a cooler for less pay over longer hours.

Well, they've offered.
Now I have to decide from 3 different job offers:
part time auto parts delivery driver or
stocking coolers at a large convenience store, or
electronics associate at Staples.
Hmmmmm. I wonder....

I was ready to vote Staples....
Wifey and I reviewed the medical plan that was offered by Staples for their part timers and, well, I'm pretty certain I'll be chillin' in the coolers for the convenience store for quite a while.
I thought it was odd that part timers could even get medical, dental and eye coverage from Staples, now I understand how they can do it: next to nothing for coverage (by comparison to full time bennies I've already had), but for college students, it really is a perfect level of coverage. Kudos to Staples for even providing any coverage.
Sigh. And their Electronics department supervisor was having a hard time with Fedora Core 1 not loading NIC drivers..... =-)
Coulda been fun, though.

I already carry COBRA medical coverage from my last employer; that policy costs me over ... well, lets just say a VERY LARGE sum of money per month. Independent health benefit plans (I've had one in the past) would only reduce that expense by 10-15% on monthly policy costs, but would also force much larger co-payments over a yearly basis, net gain for getting an independent policy is ... a loss compared to what I am carrying via COBRA..
I'm chillin' in the coolers, gang. I wanted the Staples position, and yes, I could survive in a Windows world - I scored very highly in W95/W98 administration and have several thousand posts in TechIMO (under a different nick), mostly covering Windows issues; I know windows because I still setup and teach how to use use W95/W98 on computers that friends own and continue to use.
Spreading the word about Linux is useless in companies such as Staples: the local stores pick from what is available to order, and if Linux isn't there, well, I'd be speaking against the wind. They stock RH 9.0 workstation edition.
As for telling customers about Linux.... Would I last very long if I was really good at telling everyone about Linux??? Theoretically, their revenues for Windows would be zero when I was on duty.

Revenue for Winblows = 0
Revenue for hardware = +++
people would still spend their cash, only now it would be on something usefull.
like a gel thingy for your wrist, or a dancing Santa or a usb drive.
how about a 27 inch monitor.
27? h*** go with a 32!
anyhow, you know what I mean.
