At JP's request, this new forum has been created. It is for discussion of individual commands/programs that can be run from the command line. Not to be confused with shell scripting (combining several commands into a bash or other shell script).

I think that's pretty self explanitory. JP's idea was to have a place where commands could be explained in a more down to earth place than man pages. So, here it is. If it doesn't get used much, then eventually it may end being removed. However, I have an idea that it might get used quite a bit. Wink

If just one new command per day is posted here then a newbee can learn 30 in one month! Interesting approach for an online tutorial Smile

i think we should keep this forum as a discussion type tutorial instead of listing the man page for the command. if the person is unable to understand their own man page... why list it as apposed to explaining the command or give an example as to how you yourself would use the command and why. i think that would be more benaficial. o yea... and a spell check on this forum would be nice too Embarassed

I think we're well on our way!, 9 new entries in only 10 days Smile. I'm having a hard time coming on here once or twice a week and trying out all the new info.(Winter will be here soon, we'll be back to 8 hours a day, and then I can get in here ever nite and maybe catch up Wink) This is one old guy/newbie that want's to thank all of you who are contributing to this forum topic Cool Cool .

man pages, unreadable? heresy! this is a pretty good idea and I hope that all posts include lots of examples (examples are always helpful)

Finally! The command line is loads of fun to play with, but most of the documentation I've read is terrible.
