Questions that may be relevant, but for which I don't have the answer:
1) Does Impress offer an 'executable slide show' like Power Point, that doesn't require additional software?
2) Can you save your presentations in Power Point format without losing data/formatting?

'lo Stuka,
I'm presently on the road and borrowing computers to keep ahead of eMails. Will try to check out the 'executable slide show' option in 2 days. The older Open Office Impress would lock up after showing the first slide, so I was on manual the rest of the time. Have installed SuSE 9.3 with OOo 2 now. The upgrade may be enough to solve my problem. Open Office seems to take a long time to launch, though.
Trying to save Impress files in PPt usually plays havoc with flow charts. I can live without the fancy slide changes, but unpredictable charts are discouraging.
I am a newbie, so forgive me if I am bringing a request that sounds like a whiner. Linux has a lot of specialized/customized stuff for routers, servers, etc. I would like to be able to boot a live CD with a professional looking GUI that can handle presentation materials at speeds similar to PowerPoint. If you think about it, a lot of people could be exposed to Linux, and the experience must be a positive one
If not many respond to this thread with M$ free solutions, I think I will look at making a stripped down *.iso of Morphix or Damn Small Linux (just need reading capability) with a lighter KDE Office suite to handle the materials. Previous experience was with a live Ubuntu which was a little too slow to my liking.
Thanks for taking an interest in this. I am shifting to Linux as fast as I can. Would be a kick to be able to pull the presentation out of my pocket and just tell folks to "just boot it up in Linux!"

To me, using your own machine is the better option. just my 2ยข.
