i have been using DVDRipper to make some divx files. unfortunately i don't know enough about java to alter the program itself. so i was wondering if there is a decent app to split the files up to fit on cd's. i tried avidemux...that is a little over my head. or maybe a little how to with avidemux to split avi files. any help would be appreciated. Very Happy thanks in advance.

just use avisplit. To split the .avi in to 700 MB pieces:

Code:
avisplit -s 700 -i filename.avi

The files will have 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. appended to them. The above command will split at the A/V sync points so they may be 698MB, 690MB, and so on. None will exceed 700MB.

If you have transcode installed, you should already have avisplit. Wink

I think this has been covered before, but i can't seem to find it Rolling Eyes

How do you join .avi files together. Someone over at opensuse.us asked this question, and I can't remember. I know it can be done really simply at the cli level. people are telling him to d/l and install certain apps.

or just use the relevant parts of the script, basically mencoder.......
Code:

mencoder -forceidx -oac copy -ovc copy file1.avi -o file1_final.avi

In other words...... mencoder...... man mencoder of course will give all the options and what they can do.

Optionally, one of the posters in that thread also mentions "lxsplit" which i've never used....might be worth looking into.
