i have found that i can use xpdf to copy the text and then paste it into a doc. and save as .txt but this is a bit long...and i am wanting to change them to put them onto my palm pilot.

Try ps2ascii which is part of Ghostscript (gs).
Code:

ps2ascii infile.pdf outfile.txt
