Sr. Systems Administrator, Operations

MobiTV, Inc. is a rapidly growing, leading developer of wireless media delivery services and technologies. Leveraging both our proprietary and open source platforms, MobiTV developed an international network and ASP service that delivers live television broadcasts to mobile phones. At MobiTV, we are challenged daily with redefining the very limits of what's possible utilizing today's handsets on existing wireless data infrastructures. In addition, we work closely with wireless carriers and handset manufacturers to pioneer the next-generation of richer network media services on cutting-edge multimedia handsets. Job Summary:
The Sr. Systems Administrator will help to both maintain and evolve MobiTV's 24x7x365 MobiTV services, allowing us to achieve the same aggressive uptime standards found in broadcast television. To that end, we are looking not only for an individual that understands the importance of 100% uptime in this emerging industry, but someone who also has the experience, organizational skills, and attitude to help us forge new policies, and design and implement "best practice" as we discover the road ahead.
Job Responsibilities:
• Analyzing, planning, developing, debugging and qualifying the MobiTV service as it scales in both capacity and complexity.
• Focus on uptime, quality and security of production services.
• Integration of new carriers, content, services, upgrades into the MobiTV global network.
• Debugging network or service issues, including analysis of client / server traffic.
• Auditing and documenting deployments, helping to train new SAs and better automate future buildouts.
• In depth networking monitoring and analysis to characterize network performance, find and eliminate issues.
• Generation of web based system interfaces.
• Interface with and help manage MobiTV's content and hosting partners.
• Building better NOC tools, decreasing after-hours SA support calls, and easing NOC 24x7 responses to fix service outages.
• Routine system administration and maintenance.
Position Responsibilities:
• 5+ years working within a highly scalable 24x7x365 "live" production network environment.
• 3+ years scripting/programming in a production environment.
• 3+ years hands-on RedHat Linux Server system administration.
• 3+ years working "on call" to fix service outages and maximize uptime.
• 3+ years working with Intel Hardware.
• 3+ years working with co-location facilities and remote Unix administration.
• 3+ years configuring and using system profiling and monitoring tools (i.e. SNMP-based tools like as Nagios, Cricket, MRTG).
• Database management/tuning and SQL report generation preferred (basic understanding in making queries against MySQL a must).
• Must possess Unix system administration skills:
• Linux/Redhat ES 3 mandatory, Solaris is a plus
• Scripting languages: Unix shell, Perl, Awk, Python, TCL, etc.
• Web interface tools (e.g. cgi, html, etc)
• SQL Database management and tuning
• High-level network administration
• System hardware configuration
• Hardware selection, acquisition, construction, and deployment
• System operation, monitoring, tuning TCP/IP network configuration and operations:
o Network traffic analysis (e.g. ethereal, tcpdump, etc)
o Client-server software
o High availability, failover and redundant networks.
o Routers, firewalls/security, Ethernet, Dial in/out
o HTTP, SMTP, SSH, NFS, DNS, SNMP, FTP protocols, clients and servers
• Willingness to work rotating on-call shifts.
• Ability to balance competing priorities
• Ability to gracefully react to high-priority requirements with little or no notice.
• Experience working with developer environments and CVS/RCS a plus.
• Understanding of video codecs (e.g. MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and H.264), audio codecs (e.g. qcelp, AMR, AAC, AAC+), and/or mobile devices and their cellular networks a plus.
• Preferred experience in one or more of the following:
o Telecommunications
o Internet Service Provider / Application Service Provider
Server hosting / server farms Broadcast Television / Multimedia environments, and other large scale, production, commercial systems
