I know this has been mentioned a couple of times (by Lynch, BrionS & Jada and maybe others), but I just now ran across it (& installed it with some other "extras") and found a couple of blog entries about it that some here might be interested in:

How to copy DVD9 to DVD5 using k9copy
One of the most famous programs in the Windows world - and the one that its guide has the most hits on DVD-Guides.com - is DVD Shrink. Until recently there wasn't a program good enough to serve as a good replacement for DVD Shrink under Linux, so most users used DVD Shrink itself via Wine or booted into Windows to backup their DVDs. However with the latest versions of k9copy we could say we have a native Linux program that can compete with DVD Shrink in terms of features and ease of use.

I've blogged about K9Copy's DVD rip and copy abilities in the past, but I only just noticed that it has added one step rip to MPEG4 support. After taking it for a test drive I'm very pleased with the ease of use and plan to use it for most of my ripping needs in the future.

Up until now dvd::rip has been my ripper of choice, but I recently received a stack of DVD's for Father's Day and kept getting errors during the ripping process. I reinstalled some of the libraries, but the issues still persisted. During my search for a replacement I decided to fire up K9Copy, thinking that I could potentially rip to the hard drive with it and encode with dvd::rip. That's when I noticed an MPEG4 button.

Not only does K9Copy now encode, it does everything in one step, including getting the aspect ratio correct without the user having to do anything. It lacks many of the advanced features that dvd::rip supports, but if you just want to get the main movie for easy viewing on a computer like I do, it's a great tool.

I still use it, but I'll have to re-install: I upgraded (via fresh install) from 10.0 Pro to opensuse 10.3 today.
The Linux version of DVD Shrink is pretty good too.

Well thanks for bringing it to my attention. (I must have missed everyone else's posts about it.) Looks like a nice program. I do believe I'm going to give it a whirl.
