hey all, got vobcopy wich does an excelient job of just ripping the move out but if I want to compress it is there a solution someone knows of that'll work in slackware? Evrything I've tried so far is dependancy intensive and I realy don't have much time in the day to hunt them down. thx

You'll have to install some dependancies. Slackware does not have a package manager that tracks them down for you (or at least it didn't last i used it (11.0))
DVD::RIP and ogmrip are two powerful tools that give good results and are easy to use.
you can also use mplayer/mencoder by hand to get the job done.
I wrote a shell script to automate the mencoder method see here but be warned, i still havent fixed the audio sync issues i'm having with it. the basic guide i based my script off is here
No matter what course you take there will be dependacies that need to be installed.
If you are really fed up with installing dependancies and are willing to experiment, I found the transition from slackware to gentoo a very smooth one. Of all the distributions i have worked with I have loved gentoo's package management system the best. (if anyone wants to know *buntu came in at a close second for package mamnagers)

DVD::RIP and mplayer are what everyone seems to recomend but short of me installing dropline gnome I can't meet all the dependancies, lol

hmm.... I hadn't considered that route. It certainly has fewer dependencies (heh)
Appdb rates dvdshrink consistently at a platinum level for recent versions (>=0.9.56) link is here

Dvdshrink works perfectly in wine. DVDFab works very well too and also has some other functions to target devices, real nice.
