Using KDE 4,2,2 and Open Office 3.0.1 and invoking Word 2025 documents from the Dolphin File Manager, I have been able to get the entire desktop to freeze - and not let me use any control sequences to get to a non graphical console, I have had it blow me off the system, logging me out (which is better than freezing the entire system, and I have had it work a few times too.
What I get out of this is that there are KDE components that are still really unstable. Not sure if it is Dolphin, but it could be. What I really think is responsible is the Plasma technology. It wrestles control from the desktop and prevents even administrative tasks from being performed.
I have to do some research to figure out if there are defects outstanding on this and append to them or create a new one. |

KDE 4.2.2 is the reason. There are many bugs in KDE 4.2.x this is why the KDE team extendet the release date from KDE 4.3! I am using KDE 42, from openSUSE 11.1 repo's, they are more stable then the bleeding KDE 4.2 in "factory"! |

I think that Plasma and Dolphin still have a lot of outstanding defects, and that is probably the source of the issues. If I stay away from them, stuff works fine. |
