^^Yup, for the longest while that's how I was watching movies. then Big Lots had a DVD player on sale for $25 so I actually picked up a standalone.

I just kinda let it default to whatever it's gonna. Right now, it's Totem. Sigh. I hate that thing.
No LinDVD for me though.
Edit: The only time I watch DVDs is when I'm burning dvds anyway though.
I mostly watch on my Philips player.

Xine-ui.
I use mplayer for ripping and transcoding and watching most videos, but i find that mplayer does not handle menues, or when it does it does so in a weird manner. So i use Xine for that.

I use Xine, but lately I have been using mostly Kaffeine to view .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, and .wmv videos. With the right codecs and plugins Kaffeine handles all of them. |

I hate to say, it, but I play so few DVD's on the computer when there is a nice system over my left shoulder, I never paid attention. The few I have played just to check, on various distros just came up or not. It probably said but I did not pay attention. K3B, or on rare occasions brasso, for burning them.

As long as you have the right codecs and playback libraries installed, all of the major media players work: Mplayer, KMPlayer, GPlayer, Xine, Kaffeine, Dragon Player, and others. I've tried several of them on systems that have the right add-ons and they all work. The prerequisite is to ensure that you have the right libraries installed, then everything works as expected; otherwise, you may not get the results that you want. |
