Hey all,

I am about as noobie as one gets. I am trying to edit the lts.conf file to enable floppy support on a terminal. The D#$M file is read only and for the life of me I can't figure it out. Any help out would be appreciated. Wink

Welcome to the lug "cmynott" Very Happy

I have never seen a "lts.conf" file but all system files can only be altered by "root" user, Most often done by openning the file with a text editor such as Kwrite and saving the changes. :

Thanks for the welcome. Basically, I have installed the most recent version of k12ltsp and have a terminal working which I am very happy about. I need the terminal to have an active floppy drive. I found this:

http://www.k12ltsp.org/phpwiki//StorageFloppyUsb

So, I follow the instructions and the file that I open is read only. I can't modify the file. The permissions say that I am NOT the owner. Well, I am the owner but I guess not as far as this file is concerned. Anywho, I am going to try again tomorrow and and see if I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Thanks for the reply. It is much appreciated! Wink

Try editing said file as ROOT, like mushroom suggested, that should do the trick. ROOT should be able to edit anything.

Welcome to usalug Wink

Thanks for the reply. I will give this a try. As for the ROOT their must be some sort of option that I have to login as? or apply to make the changes? Thanks again! Wink

You would need to know the root password for the terminal server, I think.

To edit files as root you have several options, among them:

- open a console and "su" to root and edit the file with the editor of your choice

- if you prefer a gui editor click tke "K" menu go to "System Tools" - "File Manager - Super User Mode" and click on that. It will ask you for your root password. Browse to the /opt/ltsp/i386/etc directory and right click on the lts.conf file and click open with and choose the text editor you want to use.

- log in as root and browse to the file and edit it as explained above.

UREIKA! I didn't realize that you need to login as root. Thanks for the info Mark. It is much appreciated! Here we go!
