I have some problem associated with acrobat reader (version 7). Some users are unable to use acroread, while some others can. root has no problems. When I restart the system again all users are able to use it. If root again uses it, the users are unable to use it again. How do I solve this problem?

I am using NLD 9 x86_64.

does acroread stay resident in memory after you "Close" it like it does in windows?
See if you find it with 'ps aux'

If so - then it makes sense that the users would be able to access the application launched by root.

Personally I recommend just using kpdf or a gnome equivilent

Does it create a lock file of any sort? It would be completely silly to do that, though...

Does an "update manager" try to phone home every time it's started?

OR...

Don't use it as root. Wink

What I don't understand why you use Adobe in Root? Never Log in us Root, only if it is realy necessary!

Check out the permissions Ownerchip = User= (root) Owner can view and modify and Groups = Users "can view & modify"!

Ok... i'll check out on that...
Looks like there is some lock... I need to specify one more thing that... the users are LDAP users... they aren't local to the system.
