am in mepis 3.4.3 , there a long time..

using Gimp 2.2.10 now am more used to it...really OK program.

lately, in doing the preview function, on some photos very, very slow..
start it in the evening..next morning still trying for preview..photos are 1.7 to 2.6 meg. jpg

have 512 M ram. on a 1 G Intel, plenty of hard disk space.

using the process table,,cpu usage high, using most of the ram, very little swap space used.

if i just look at the photo from a brower,,,,takes a few sec. to load.

what am i doing wrong??

any help much apprecitated!

i spent some time in the setup, tried tiling the ram from one extreame to the other, changed the photo size, (went down).
nothing seems to help much..

also when in gimp, even after i close, the whole system is real slow
a new session helps speed back up, but a restart does much better,,

i haven't found any other program which does this..

reminds me of windoz Smile any more ideas?

thanks

Larry

I've recently run that kind of setup; not sure if this would help, but WITHOUT quitting Gimp, maybe try exporting and whatnot, so that the image can be saved as something. Then view the export in another application, without quitting Gimp. The programs sometimes release system ram better when they are task swapped, and the output images should be free from 'undo' histories that Gimp may be dealing with.

HTH.

have tried swapping photos, and have had some amount of success..

but there is basicly something not right with Gimp.

will try a new machine with 3.4.3 and see how it does.

thanks for the ideas

PS the KDE Digikam works fine....just not as neat a program.. and need to find where it puts the finished photo.
