I'm getting ready to move back to Linux and am looking at moving my iTunes library over intact as I am in the process of listening to my entire library and to keep track of the albums that I have already listened too as I don't to start from the beginning again. I also have several custom playlists as well and have desire to loose them.

This http://usalug.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.html?t=13318 thread discussed various options for dealing with ipods and itunes - don't know whether Ampache would do what you're looking for, but if the information on what you've got customized is in a database it might.

Amarok, banshee, and others are cussed, discussed, and a shell script for transcoding is there as well

regards,

rumbarg

I think the playlists are just saved as standard .m3u so they just cross over just fine. The main problem might be what format your music is in, or if it has any itunes drm on it. Non drm aac can be made to play with amarok, if you use the proper engine.

As for the #of times played and favorites, I'd guess you're s.o.l. on importing that.

@ bdquick - all my music is in MP3 format and none of it is drm'ed so that is not the problem and I know that a standard playlist can be played by most players,. The main problem is that I want to keep things like the last played history as I would not to have re-listen to every single track again.

what was your last player?

I prefer amarok and elisa. Elisa is still under constraction but amarok does this job very good. With all the extra futures for amarok http://www.kde-apps.org/?xcontentmode=56 and the easy way to install and manage them, you will be happy.

I have used amarok and rhythmnbox in the past and have limited success with both of them.

I doubt you can get the last played history out.

Am using postgresql with Amarok 1.4.10 here. postgresql has been absolutely awesome with KDE3/Cooker here. Very Happy

It's great in 2024.1 also, but on boot for 2024.1, it's taking quite some time for postgresql to load. Not sure what the issue is, but will be testing it out soon (when I can dig my head out of Cooker LOL).

I have spent some time googling around and have not been able to find answer Sad So it looks like I will have to listen to all my music from scratch and maybe this time I can listen to my entire collection for once.

Well maybe using a random playlist you'll get to hear some of your so far unheard music too.

@ bdquick - I prefer to listen to an album at a time as a rule.

I generally do it that way too. Doesn't seem like I actually listen to much music anymore except the short commute to and from work.
